RAViX III To Be Incorporated in MAYA 5

Electric Rain's Ravix III Rendering Technology to supply
Alias|WaveFront's Maya 5 with Flash Export

Boulder, CO - April, 7th 2003 - Today Electric Rain, Inc.® announced the signing of an agreement to license their proprietary RAViX® III vector and raster rendering technology to Alias|WavefrontT, makers of Maya® , the world's leading professional 3D animation and effects software package. RAViX III will provide Maya 5 with the power to export to Macromedia® FlashT (SWF), Adobe® Illustrator® (AI), EPS, and SVG.

"We're very excited to see our RAViX III technology add functionality to a world-renown 3D software package like Maya 5," said Mike Soucie, President of Electric Rain, Inc. "Maya 5 users will soon be able to broaden their publishing horizons by repurposing their 3D content to the Web-friendly Macromedia Flash SWF file format. This union of Electric Rain's premier 3D-to-vector technology and Maya's powerful modeling and animating environment is going to solidify Maya's position as a leading 3D authoring and publishing solution."

Integrated into Maya, RAViX III is the underlying technology that drives the Maya 5 Vector Renderer, enabling the program to render 3D Vector scenes with complete accuracy, while staying true to colors, lighting, camera views and animations. RAViX III is the only 3D-to-vector technology on the market that offers extensive export options including realistic 3D Vector renderings through gradient shading, shadows, reflections, transparency, and advanced specular highlights; photo-realistic Flash SWF raster output that supports bitmap textures; and enhanced 3D-to-Flash workflow and editing capabilities through Electric Rain's patent-pending SmartLayerT technology that works in conjunction with its proprietary Flash MX importer. RAViX III is able to handle models containing well over 200,000 polygons and the resulting files are fully optimized.

"The imaging potential with Maya 5's new Vector Renderer provides more than just a wider range of production possibilities for users," said Bob Bennett, General Manager, Product Development, Alias|Wavefront. "The seamless integration of the RAViX III technology into Maya's new unified rendering workflow makes a perfectly natural extension for Maya customers."

The agreement with Alias|Wavefront marks the fourth instance that the RAViX rendering technology has been licensed by an industry-leading 3D company for use within their own 3D products. The agreement also moves Electric Rain closer to establishing RAViX as the industry standard solution for creating 3D vector Flash files. Electric Rain has successfully licensed RAViX to Corastar for use in Strata 3Dpro, Eovia for creating VectorStyle (a plug-in for Carrara Studio), and to Born Digital for the development of a SOFTIMAGE|3D plug-in.
